Universal Music Recordings veröffentlicht am 27.09. ein neues Box-Set von Thin Lizzy, das ein phänomenales Jahr im Leben einer der größten Rockbands aller Zeiten feiert.

Das 5CD+Blu-ray-Set enthält neue Stereomixe und die Originalversionen der Studioalben "Jailbreak" - mit dem klassischen karrierebestimmenden Titelsong sowie dem Klassiker "The Boys Are Back In Town" - und "Johnny The Fox" mit dem Hit "Don't Believe A Word", die beide ursprünglich 1976 erschienen sind. Die anderen Discs beinhalten unveröffentlichte Versionen der Band, Radiosessions, Demos und eine bisher noch nicht erschienene Show aus Cleveland, Ohio, vom 11. Mai 1976. Die Blu-ray bietet einen Atmos-Mix der beiden Alben sowie die neuen Stereomixe und remasterte Versionen der Originalalben. Die neuen Abmischungen wurden von Richard Whittaker vorgenommen, unter Aufsicht des legendären Lizzy-Gitarristen Scott Gorham und von Andy Pearce gemastert.

THIN LIZZY 1976 befindet sich in einer 10 x 10 Box mit einem 40-seitigen, gebundenen Buch mit Erläuterungen zur Band des bekannten Musikautors Mark Blake und vielen seltenen Fotos.

Die Geschichte, wie es dazu kam, dass Thin Lizzy zwei klassische Alben und Tourneen produzierten, aus denen zudem eines der besten Live-Alben aller Zeiten: "Live And Dangerous" hervorging, beginnt mit einer lebensbedrohlichen Krise des Sängers, Songwriters und Bassisten von Thin Lizzy, Philip Lynott.

Das Album "Jailbreak" wurde im März 1976 veröffentlicht und festigte den doppelten Gitarrensound des Kaliforniers Scott Gorham und des Glasgowers Brian Robertson. Es galt als der Durchbruch der Band in Amerika und erreichte Platz 18 der Billboard-Charts sowie die Top Ten im Vereinigten Königreich. Während der Tournee in den USA kam es zu einer Katastrophe: Philip erkrankte an Hepatitis. Die Band wurde unter Quarantäne gestellt und der Rest der Tournee abgesagt. Entschlossen, den Schwung der Band aufrechtzuerhalten, begann Lynott in seinem Krankenhausbett Songs zu schreiben, die dann schließlich zu Aufnahmen in den Ramport Studios führten. Bei diesen Sessions entstand "Johnny The Fox", ein perfektes Gegenstück zu "Jailbreak", aber mit einem stärkeren Funk-Rock-Einschlag als sein Vorgänger.

Im Oktober 1976 wurde das von Kritikern gelobte Album "Johnny The Fox" veröffentlicht und erreichte dank des Hits "Don't Believe A Word" Platz 11 in den britischen Albumcharts. Einen Monat nach der Veröffentlichung spielten Thin Lizzy drei ausverkaufte Abende im Hammersmith Odeon. Die Shows wurden aufgezeichnet und markierten den ersten Schritt zu Thin Lizzys bahnbrechendem Album „Live And Dangerous“.

„Jailbreak" und „Johnny The Fox" gelten als die definitiven Thin-Lizzy-Studioalben mit Hits und Live-Favoriten wie "The Boys Are Back In Town" - das mittlerweile über eine halbe Milliarde Mal gestreamt wurde - "Jailbreak", "Warriors", "Emerald", "Don't Believe A Word", "Massacre" oder "Cowboy Song".

Dazu Scott Gorham: "Das Großartige war das Schreiben, es war ein Killer. Ich weiß immer noch nicht, ob es einfach etwas war, das auf natürliche Weise passierte oder weil der Druck da war. Aber es gibt Songs auf diesen Platten, die wir heute noch spielen. Songs, die immer im Thin Lizzy Set sein werden."
